Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress who works in the fields of film, television as well as theatre. Her most well-known role is Teri Joe, a fiery lawyer on the Showtime series Soul Food. After her marriage she became Nikki Kodjoe. As a child living in Baltimore, Maryland, she was always interested in acting. When she participated in an Maryland high school event in her early years of schooling, she won the prize for the best actress. Following her time in the theater and with 'The Washington Ballet Company' she graduated with a certificate in acting from New York University. The actress received lots of praise for her first major part on The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love. Films like Blue Streak and Boogie Nights Spark followed. Soul Food, her TV show, was widely praised due to her performance. Also, she appeared in TV Series such as Second Time Around 'and Empire. Prior to that she appeared in a variety of stage productions. Parker, who is involved in politics, is married to model-actor Boris Kodjoe. The couple has two daughters.
Contractor was born at Mumbai in India she was raised in Nigeria up until she turned seven. She had already experienced many different travels and other cultures since a early age. After attending boarding school for seven years in London, her family relocated to Toronto Canada where she spent much of her early years and early adulthood. Contractor was an outstanding pupil in Toronto and was trained to be a classical ballet dancer. At the Etobicoke School of the Arts (a public high school specializing in the arts), Contractor studied both the theatre and dance. Contractor started acting at the age of 16 and was a part of the theater for a decade after spending ten years of dance. Following her graduation from high school Contractor accepted a scholarship at the University of Toronto to pursue an undergraduate degree in psychology and sociology. She also earned a Master's degree in Theatre. Following a semester at the University, Contractor went to an audition on a call-to-action basis for the production Pericles in the highly regarded and renowned Stratford Shakespeare Festival [Ontario, Canada and landed the leading role. The year 2002 was a great one for her. Canadian reviewers praised her performance in 92 productions of Pericles. Contractor was offered the opportunity to join Stratford's conservatory, where a select eight men and four women are accepted for a 20-week crash course on the classical stage that she gladly accepted. Contractor received a guaranteed spot in the following season of plays and landed the part in the role of Hermia as Hermia in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
